New Flooring-Day Six

What a miserable, rainy day Friday turned out to be!  The contractors tried their best to finish the baseboard trim but the rain hindered them from cutting the trim outside.  They didn't want to use the saw in the house.  They worked until 7pm and will have to come back on Tuesday to finish the baseboards in the kitchen, pantry and laundry room.

Dear Hubby took me out for a Catfish Dinner while we waited for the rain to stop.  Finally about 7:45pm the rain stopped and we started unloading the U-haul.  We needed to return it by noon on Saturday so time was not on our side.  We worked about 2 hours and got it 1/2 way unloaded.  Now the house is starting to get messy.

Since we were in such a time crunch, I didn't get photos and since life gets in the way of blogging I know this is a little delayed.

We donated the Living Room furniture and are currently on the hunt for  something "new" to us.  But in the meantime we are sitting in our camping lounge chairs and two office chairs.  Life of Luxury!  The rug is for the Dining room but I didn't want the chairs to scratch my new flooring so we're putting it to good use.

Current Living Room situation

Girl M's new room is so cute!  Peaceful & so pretty!

Girl M's room

We moved the rug from the Living room into our bedroom.  We love it!  Dear hubby hung the curtain rods for curtains that I'm also moving from the Living room.  We installed roller blinds in all the windows.  The sun is so brutal during the day here in Florida.  We had all the windows tinted a few years back and that helps a lot but when the temps reach 100+ degrees during the summer I need all the help I can get.

Master bedroom
I want to go play in my new sewing rooms but there is so much paint touch ups and unpacking left to do that I will have to put sewing on the back burner for a bit.  Makes me sad, but my "new" to me house makes me happy!

Hugs & Thanks for listening to my non-sewing ramblings!

Until next time...............

New Flooring-Day Five

We're on the home stretch!  Hopefully I'll be moving back in soon.

The new flooring makes our closet look huge!  It will so much easier to keep the floors clean.

Master closet

Girl M.'s new room looks 100% better.  Classy!

Girl M's Room

Looking out Girl M's room toward the Kitchen

The contractors said they've only had one other house they were able to lay flooring with no doorway transitions.

Last night before they left they suggested new toilets.  We seriously thought about it but were unable to decide what type and we were afraid that the height would interfere with the window in the Master Bath.  The contractors said they would pick them up for us and install them.  Win-Win! How could we tell them no to that offer?  They are perfect! and so fancy!  Top flush & water savers

Bathroom & New Thrones!

Sewing rooms

Since Girl M's old room is the smaller of the two sewing rooms I'm considering putting all the machines in there and fabric in the "old" sewing room.

New Sewing room

I am thinking of making curtains with this Timeless Treasures Vintage looking fabric.  They are currently out of stock so I'll just sit tight until it's back in stock.

I saw these valance/curtains on Pinterest.  I'm a sucker for anything black/white check.  I have plenty of time to decide.

Tomorrow they will be finishing up two small closet flooring and baseboard trims. They have painted the baseboard trim and they are drying on sawhorses in the living room.  We're expecting storms tonight & rain all day tomorrow.  Hopefully it will stop in the evening so we can unload the U-haul.  We have no help unloading this weekend (everyone is working) so we asked the contractors if their two helpers would be interested in a little extra money for and hour of work after they get off.  Hopefully they're willing.

 I'm so excited! Almost done!

Until next time...............

New Flooring-Day Four

The contractors are moving right along.  They are some serious workers.  I hear hammering all day long!

They finished the flooring in the Master Bedroom.  We re-painted over the past weekend.

The flooring is almost half way complete in these two rooms.

Here's the view from the other side!  I'm so excited!

I am just amazed how much they complete each day.  I'm thinking tomorrow will be Master closet, sewing rooms & master bath.

I'm another day closer to being able to move back in!

New Flooring-Day Three

I didn't go in and take a peek ALL DAY!  I waited for Dear Hubby to get home last night so we could see the progress together.  It's moving along fast.  They are doing such a great job!

Looking from the Living room into the Kitchen.  No more transition from one room to the next.  It makes it look so much larger.

They only have the bedrooms and bathrooms left to put the flooring in then start the baseboards.  Today is the day for the walk thru in the sewing room!  I am most excited about seeing this!

New Flooring-Day Two

This is our Home Sweet Home for the week. We purchased this travel trailer in 2019 for Hubby's retirement and with hopes to travel the United States.  Well, we made it to the front yard!

We bought a toy hauler in hopes of getting a motorcycle too but we've since changed our minds.  Dear Hubby decided he didn't want to die right after retirement. But we love the travel trailer so we're making it work.

First day of work:  Old flooring has been removed in 80% of the house and they have already started laying the new flooring in the living room, part of the kitchen & part of laundry room.  They made great progress yesterday.

Kitchen to Living room. No transition piece between rooms!

Living room

Our colors in the living room have been browns, tans, black & white.  I think maybe a little gray would look nice with the flooring now.

Living room

The contractor brought samples of flooring for us to choose from when we first met him. The first sample he showed us was exactly what we had in mind.  He impressed me that he listened what we wanted.  Little mixed colors, rustic, grain, textured, and waterproof.  Well, he delivered! A+!  The flooring was purchased at Lowes Home Improvement locally.  You can see it here.

We've never had to work with a contractor and I must say, so far, so good.  You must just have to find the right one.  I think the hardest part of all this except the moving out is staying out of the house.  I really want to go help.  But I'll be good and stay out in my camper, out of their way and wait for them to leave at 5pm so I can go in and oogle!

Until next time................

New Flooring-Day One

I have the best Family & Friends in the world!  Ten people showed up last Saturday between severe thunderstorms to help us move everything out of our house.  We rented a 24' U-Haul and also filled two 20' open trailers.  I had most rooms cleaned out and only had large furniture left.

Dear Hubby helped me re-paint three rooms and partially gut a bathroom.  What have we gotten ourselves into?

I really think I have too much "stuff".  You don't realize how much you have until you have to move it.  I am seriously thinking of minimalizing the contents of the house.

Flooring delivered

Girl M. will be moving into this room.  Boy F. picked this wall color 10 years ago.  It's called Sweet Tea but looks more like UPS brown!

Dear Hubby bought me a paint sprayer to help make painting easier on me.  I have yet to use it since Girl M. loves power tools as much as me!

Primer coat #1

Everyone said "You have a lot of lamps".  I don't think that's a lot but it was funny 3 different people mentioned it.  I didn't pack the lamps hoping they would be safer on the hearth than crammed into a truck.

Living room emptied

Dining room looking into my sewing room.  The flooring looks nice in these pictures but believe me they were what we could afford 10 years ago and are cheap.

Dining Room

These photos really lie.  The carpet is 25 years old and is gross.  It might look nice here but, YUCk!

Master Bedroom

Looking into my sewing room, there is a closet.  On the other side of the closet wall is Girl M's room.  We are having a doorway cut out so make my sewing room 2 rooms!  I AM SOOOO EXCITED!  I've needed more room.  After trying to see if I could fit all my stuff into Boy F's room I realized it wasn't much better.  Dear Hubby suggested I just make two rooms.  One will be for fabric and one for machines.  He's the BEST!

Sewing room

I miss sewing so much and look forward to decorating & organizing my sew rooms.

Today the construction company showed up at 7:30 AM ready to start tearing out all the old floorings (7 different ones) , fix any flooring issues and maybe start on the walk-thru.

We hired Two Cops Construction.  Isn't that a woot!  They were Deputies with the Sheriff's office and both we to work in the construction business.  I must say they have been on time every time they met us.

I forgot my coffee creamer in there and dreading running in to get it!

Two Cops Construction!

More pictures tomorrow!

Thanks for listening to my "not sewing" adventures today.

Until next time..............

January in a Fog

Hello February!  I am now 5 weeks post-op and starting to get my stamina back.  Some days are better than others. I try to rest periodically during the day but not nap as much.  It was a very exhausting, cloudy minded month of January!

On the sewing front I sewed two fails and one success.  The two fails might have been from post surgery brain fog and measuring myself  3 weeks post-op.  DON'T EVER DO THAT!

I tried the Winter Wear Designs Amuse Boho Dress.  This dress was huge!   I tried taking it in.  Over 2" on the side seams & a 1" dart at the top of the sleeve, but I ended up trashing it.  I was frustrated & disappointed in myself. I thought moving on would be better than fighting anymore with this dress.

Next, I tried a Butterick pattern? I don't have the pattern number because I've packed it away.  Sorry.  This dress fit much better since I shrank a few inches from my last measuring fiasco. But it looks like a sad maternity dress/nightgown.  I debated whether to finish it or not and decided to trash it too after I serged the center front into the side seam!

Than came Sinclair Patterns Harper Cardigan.  I am in LOVE!  The fit was perfect!  I did take me an entire week to sew it up.  Just moving the ponte knt fabric & laying it out on the cutting table exhausted me. It took an entire day to print out the pattern, a day to tape it together & cut it out.  My arms & chest were sore after 3 days of sewing prep!

But it was so worth it!  I really like the cardigan.

I don't know what to do with my hair.  I know it's in that awkward growing out phase but it's bad!

Ugggh! Horrible hair days!

One of my chickens gave me a dinosaur size egg!  It was a double yoke too!

Dinosaur egg?

Dear Hubby's retirement is going good.  He has been working 5 days a week, from sunrise until after dark.  I miss him dearly but I figure he might as well make a little money while he's able & the work is there.  He is looking to have his pacemaker replaced sometime late March/April.  He'll have about 6 weeks recovery then hopefully we'll be taking a trip sometime in May or June.

Feed for the heard

Dear Hubby & the Heard

Dear Hubby has generously gifted me new flooring in the entire house!  We currently have 7 different floorings!  There's good and bad to it though.  The contractors are going to do our entire house of 2000sqft in a week.  That includes removing all the old flooring, installing new flooring and new baseboards.  So not only do we have to move out, I have to pack & move everything!

Three rooms need paining before flooring is installed.  Two of those rooms have the most stuff.  My sewing room and Boy F's bedroom. (he's a packrat!).  Our bedroom will be getting a new coat of paint too.

Packing up the sewing room is a top priority since I could do it slowly.  I have a lot of fabric!  Who knew??

I have to pack ALL this up!

This is going to take forever!

Halfway done!

Almost there!

Done!

I thought of switching rooms with Boy F since his room is bigger & he's hardly ever here anyways.  But I feel guilty.  He's been in the same room all his life!  But he's never here.  But I really could use the bigger room.  But he has just as much stuff.  But I really could use the bigger room.  But he won't be here forever.  But I really would love the bigger room!  We'll see how this turns out.

I hope to be back to sewing sometime in late February and maybe even in a "new" room.

Until next time...............
