Don't Sew When You Are HANGRY! McCall 5145 Shirt

I guess HANGRY is a real word now.  Being angry because of being hungry.  Well, don't sew when you're hangry!

I thought I would work up a muslin for a white sleeveless button down shirt.  Thinking that a princess seam shirt would be the best, I graded and fit the McCall 5145 to work with ALL my curves.

The pictures make the shirt look much better than in person!  Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for making this shirt yet?

I'm not sure if it's the lovely yellow and green cotton fabric or if I was just hangry..... Dear hubby said the shirt was fine and asked if I was planning to wear it to Church Wednesday night.  My reply was, "I'm going to wear it straight to the dumpster!"  Now those are hangry words!

I have decided to set the McCall 5145 pattern aside and work on something else.  I have purged my "fit to me" patterns that I moved to my new closet.  I've sorted, tagged, and rehung all the patterns.  They are organized my type (jackets, skirts, tops & dresses) and I hope to make dividers for them too.

I am also organizing sewing machine needles.  I didn't have a good system for storing them.  I just kept them in a zip top bag.  (Not a real smart idea!)  I have purchased a plastic divider box (like a tackle box) and I will label the compartments for the different sizes and type of needles.  Now it will be so much easier to find the right needle for the project I'm working on.

I'm hoping to get back to fall sewing here, but it's soooo hot, I just want to wear sleeveless dresses and float in the pool.

Until next time...................

    1. Thank you. It's growing on me, I'm just going to have to wear it once or twice to see if it's a go or not!

    3. I've been organizing too. Sewing machine needles, patterns & zippers. We've had only a few Labor Day sales; a little one at Joann's. Serger thread for $1.49 and lining fabric for $2.49 yard. Nothing too spectacular. I've been sewing the Silhouette Pattern Nick & Zoe's skirt, I'm really liking it! Have a great weekend!

    1. Practice & patience. I am self taught, but now there is so much information out there on the web and youtube videos, it's so much easier to learn now than ever! I have always thought of a sewing pattern as a puzzle, you go step by step to put all the pieces together and tada! at the end you have a piece of clothing or a quilt!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I'm not sure if it's just one thing. I'm not much on wearing collars, I usually wear a dress so a shirt seems to be a bother in general, I incorrectly sewed the buttonholes horizontally and the fabric color does not match a thing I own in general. But on the plus side it fits my shoulders perfect, the bust is good, the shirt buttons up with no gaping along the front, the waist is fine, the hips are perfect with plenty of ease......I guess all in all the shirt is a good fit, I just need a different fabric and maybe no interfacing in the collar to help softened it so I don't feel so stiff in it................Thanks for asking it made me REALLY think about the shirt.
