Ellie and Mac Oasis Swim Suit

I am soooo out of my comfort zone!  Girl M wanted a swimsuit.  Of course, all the stores have been closed, we are not going anywhere for anything.  So with a lot of pushing from Girl M, this Momma made a swimsuit.  Well, actually two swimsuits!

I saw the Oasis Swim pattern from Ellie and Mac so I thought I would give it a shot.  I made a muslin/trial run out of swimsuit fabric and sewing a swimsuit wasn't as hard as I thought.

My first version wasn't too bad.  I had a few things Girl M wanted fixed. I cut out a Large for the top and an XL for the bottom.  The bottom needed the waist taken in 1/2" at the side seams and the crotch width made 1" smaller.  For the top, she wanted the ties longer and the bands wider.  Easy enough!

After fixing a few minor issues I made Girl M a second swimsuit in black.  I also adjusted the bottoms to have a more yoga style waistband.  She LOVED it!  She said she's keeping the pink version so she can mix and match her swimsuits.

Well, I would consider this a win-win!  She's happy, I'm happy ALL is good!

Butterick 6677 Floral Crepe de Chine Dress

Dear Hubby has had another surgery.  This time it was to have his gall bladder removed.  He has lost so much weight in the past few weeks.  He weighs 170lbs now!  I am hopeful that this surgery has fixed all his stomach pain issues and that he will be pain free from now on.

 I just had to make myself a version of the Butterick 6677 dress.  I made View B, the maxi version with the gathered flounce at the bottom.  I made myself a size 18 and the fit is perfect.  I made bias tape from the same fabric and the dress sewed up quickly.

 I like that this pattern has pockets. They are well hidden with the fabric print.  I wasn't sure about the flounce at the bottom but I love the way the dress moves when you walk.  I may have to make another dress one day.

Butterick 6677 Crinkle Challis Dress

I decided to sew up a newer pattern this time around.  Girl M was the lucky receipient of this Butterick 6677 Dress.  I sewed View A in a size 18.  It felt like it took me forever to finish this dress since "LIFE" gets in the way.

 The neckline came out a little wonky and I had a "make it work" moment.  After sewing in the bias tape to the neckline I inserted a piece of 1/8" elastic to tighten the neckline.  It worked!

McCall 8017 Navy Floral Sheath Dress

I know I have no where to go but I keep on sewing new dresses.  When the world gets a "new" normal I will be one of the best dressed ladies out there!  No sweats or leggings for me in public!

I sewed a dress from another great oldie pattern from my stash.  McCall's 8017 sheath dress.  After a quick muslin I had to make a few adjustments.  I cut a size 16 at the bust and waist, a size 18 for the hips.  Moved bust darts 2" lower.  1/2" sway back adjustment, took in waist darts above the waist 1/8", lowered neckline made shoulder length 1/2" shorter.  I know it seems like a lot of fitting but it was worth it!

Can you see Girl M. doing her school work?  She's almost done with High School!  She isn't concerned about all her High School traditions and has dreaded Graduation ceremony for a while.  As of today they are undecided about the ceremony and she would be happier if they would mail her diploma.  It's sad because she deserves to walk across the stage to get her diploma but she really could care less.  More than anything she wants the State to open up so she can take her CNA-State exam.  Soon enough child!

Butterick 4242 Dress & Jacket

Some patterns just call to you. This Butterick 4242 pattern has called to me for a while.  I loved the kimono style sleeve, princess dress.  Easy shaping and no lining.  The dress sewed up quickly and I put the invisible zipper in perfect!

I sewed up a straight size 18 and ended up removing 1/2" from the seam allowances from the shoulder to the waist all the way around.  Probably made it a size 14 or 16 above the waist.  But not being sure what size I am I thought it's better to be too big than too small.

I used a Purple 100% Poly Floral Paisley Jacquard fabric by Famous Dress Designer I purchased at Fabric Mart Fabrics.com.  $4.55/Yard.  The fabric has a beautiful hand and sewed and pressed nice.

For the jacket I cut out a size 14 at the shoulders and bust and a size 18 at the waist and hips.  The sleeves were also a size 14!  The jacket has a great fit and I love the shawl collar.

Simplicity 8841 Linen Crop Pants & McCall 7975 Jersey Knit Twist Top

I tried another pair of Simplicity 8841 pants in Rayon/Linen Blend from Fabric Mart Fabrics.  The fabric sewed up beautifully even though it was a little heavier and frayed a bit but using the serger on the seams helped to keep the fraying to a minimum. $9.00 pants!

I also sewed up another McCall 7975 knit twist front top.  I really love this pattern.  and the fabric was another Fabric Mart Fabrics purchase.  $8.00 top!  I think I will get a lot of wear out of this one too.

New Look 6640 Black Ponte Knit Asymmetrical Gathered Skirt

Joy Bernhardt from YouTube inspired me to make up this skirt.  I thought a ponte knit fabric would work.  I altered the pattern to include a yoga style waistband and eliminated the waistband facing and zipper.

 I used 2 yards of Raven Black Poly/Rayon/Lycra Ponte knit from FabricMartFabrics.com.  My skirt was a total of $5.98!

I made this skirt back in the beginning of March and have yet to wear it.  No place to go, but I'm sure it will be a wardrobe staple as soon as the world started moving again!
