Ugly Sweater Party 2017

Our oldest son & our Daughter in Law hosted an Ugly Sweater Christmas Party.  I must admit I am a Scrooge/Grinch when it comes to Christmas parties.  I just can't seem to be able justify spending money on an Ugly Sweater to wear to ONE party.  Times that by 3, because Dear Hubby and Girl M both needed ugly sweaters too.

We didn't do sweaters but ugly sweatshirts.

Dear Hubby was the most excited about his.  He found his inspiration way back in October!

I decided to do an ugly sweater sweater.  I couldn't do just a top so I had a tablecloth that was gifted to me at Thanksgiving.  I had it on our table a few times but I thought it was ugly so "Why not make it into a skirt!"  I think I'm getting into this "UGLY SWEATER" thing!

Dear Daughter wanted a Trump "Make Christmas Great Again" ugly sweater.  She came in 2nd place!

 Boy F. made this sweater his own..........He's too funny!  His girlfriend is  just the cutest!

We also had to a white elephant gift exchange, appetizer/finger foods and so many laughs!  It was so good to just relax and have a good time.

Tomorrow is another day of Christmas for us so off to bed for another early day.

Going Gray 1 Year Update + Loosing 40lbs

Wow, what a difference a year can make!  I've lost 40 lbs and let my hair go natural.  It may not seem like much but I feel so much better.  I do get comments on occasion about the gray hair but I've gotten to a point I just laugh it off.  Being only 43 with gray hair sometimes gets a good laugh.  But I do try to keep my hair stylist so that it doesn't age me too much.

It was a year's journey and I wouldn't go back and change a thing!  I do love my hair color and I do LOVE how my clothes fit now.  I am hoping that this coming year I can loose 40 more lbs and that I continue to stay healthy and active.

Burgundy ITY Knit Drape Neck Top

I needed a Christmas top to wear to a semi-formal dinner at a Country Club with Dear Hubby for work.  Eating out at new places is a minor perk of Dear Hubby's new position.  We've been to three ball/gala/parties since he has been promoted.  I don't mind the dinner and it makes me get out a little more.

I thought that this burgundy ITY knit would make a classy drape neck top for the dinner.

 I made the sleeves 3/4 length on this version.

 The top is much darker in person.  I like that it will go with all of my ponte knit slim skirts and I think it will be a wardrobe staple.

Butterick 6247 Sweater Top

I have never sewn with sweater knits.  I like to buy sweater knits.......I have a problem.............

I liked Butterick 6247 pattern and thought maybe it would help my sewing momentum.

The pattern is a tunic that i removed 5.75" from the length.  I don't wear tunics.  No real major changes to the pattern, just added a little at the hip seam allowances.

I noted to add about 3/4" to center front since it wants to pull up a little there.

I am looking forward to wearing this top.

Wine Velvet Plaid Skirt

I dug out a TNT pattern I had and it took the WHOLE week to sew up a skirt that only had 6 pieces.  I hate when I loose steam while sewing.  About half way through sewing, I started dreading this skirt.  My plaids didn't line up, there was fuzz all over the sewing room, and I realized that this pattern was going to be WAY too big and WAY too long.

I went ahead and finished the skirt..............and it's ok.  I'm not sure how much I'm going to wear it but I finished it.

This blue drape neck top is the only top I could find to wear with the skirt.

I hope to get my sewing mojo back because I realized last weekend I do not have cold weather clothes.  Must be because I live in FLORIDA and it's ALWAYS HOT here!

Simplicity 1072 Black Gray Sequin Sweatshirt

Ok, this version of the Simplicity has sequins but I don't think it's as flashy as the blue version from 2015.

 I bought this black brushed ITY Knit fabric from my usual Fabricmartfabrics.com.  It did not disappoint.  It feels and acts more like a jersey knit but it feels like heaven!  It's so soft!

I'm thinking of one more sweatshirt.........maybe something a little more casual.........maybe even with a Christmas theme!
